The 2014 Kagulu Hill Climbing Challenge took place in Uganda.

The Busoga Tourism Initiative is organizing another hill climbing challenge on Friday, May 8, 2014, and ending on Saturday, May 9, 2014, in an effort to promote tourism in Busoga. The challenge is a great way to promote the area and draws a lot of tourists and experienced climbers to Busoga.

Kagulu Hill, located in Jinja, is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Busoga. It includes numerous historical and fascinating caves that are worth exploring. It is roughly 3600 meters high.

Weeks before the challenge, Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga visited Kagulu Hill and other tourist destinations with a group of Turkish investors in an effort to promote the area’s tourism offerings and entice them to make investments there.

The idea to market the region’s tourist attractions was inspired by the ways in which the people residing in the Mount Rwenzori region have benefited from tourism and how that region has grown economically with tourism as a major source of income, according to Mr. Edward Balidawa, the chairperson of the Busoga Tourism Initiative and the person behind the organizing of the Kagulu hill climbing challenge. In contrast to the people residing close to the Rwenzori, Busoga had not taken the time to visit the markets and the natural landmarks in the area, like the Source of the Nile, the Bujagali Falls, and Kagulu Hill.

But the area appears to have awakened, as it is currently actively promoting its tourism industry. The hill climbing challenge, as well as the speaker’s visit and tour of other tourist destinations with possible investors, all suggest a concerted effort to promote tourism in Busoga.

The major guest of honor during the ceremony was H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the president of Uganda. The minister of tourism, Maria Mutagamba, and the speaker of parliament, who also serves as the chair of the Busoga Parliament Group, are anticipated to climb up the hill.

Dr. Jose Chameleon entertained the guests during the occasion. Also serving as the tourism goodwill ambassador for Busoga is Dr. Jose Chameleon.

Prior to being diverted to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, which provides visitors with gorilla trekking expeditions, Busoga was a significant participant in Ugandan tourism. Hopefully, the Kagulu hill climbing competition and all the other tourism-related initiatives in the area will be a huge success and help boost tourism in Busoga, reestablishing it as one of Uganda’s top tourist destinations.
