Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the hotel in Kigali.

Depending on your arrival time at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by our experienced driver guide, who will transfer you to Kigali City with a short briefing followed by a short city tour to the cultural sites like the museum and genocides.  Later, check in at the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 2: Kigali city tour.

Following a morning breakfast, meet the driver guide for a drive to Kigali for a city tour to experience her culture. You will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, where thousands of victims during the genocide were buried, and proceed to the Kandt Museum.

While at the museum, you will get to know the different life styles of people and later have lunch in a local restaurant.  After lunch, visit the former president’s residence to get a clue on the political history of Rwanda and end with a visit to the markets. Dinner and overnight at the lodge when you return.

Day 3: Transfer to Akagera national park and evening game drive.

After morning breakfast, you will be transferred to Akagera National Park, which lies in the south-west of Rwanda with views of hilly landscapes and savannah vegetation along the way. Check-in at the lodge, and in the evening embark on a game drive in the park.

Expect to see zebras and giraffes and later return to the lodge for dinner and retire for a night.

Duration: 2:30 minutes.

Day 4: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise.

Having had an early morning breakfast, embark on a morning game drive in the north of the park as you search for wild game. Expect to see zebras, impalas, and giraffes, among others, and later return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, set off for a boat cruise that heads to Lake Ihema, where you will see both land and water animals like hippos and crocodiles. Return to the lodge for dinner and a good night’s sleep.

Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

After morning breakfast, check out of the hotel, and meet the driver for a transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park via Kigali with enroute at Kibuye for lunch.

On arrival at the park, check in at the reserved accommodation facility for relaxation as you await dinner and retire for a night.

Duration: 7 hours.

Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk.

Wake up early enough for breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters for a pre-chimpanzee trekking briefing. Later, you will be led to the forest and embark on the search for the gentle giants in their natural habitats as you encounter birds and other primates like monkeys.

Upon finding them, you will be given 1 hour to study them and take pictures after returning to the lodge for lunch. In the evening, you can optionally have a canopy walk in the forest to take a glimpse on nature from above and shout at top of your voice with arms widely spread. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 7: Nature walk and transfer to Volcanoes.

After a morning breakfast, have another trek into Nyungwe forest to up close a variety of birds, rare plant species, and also monkeys. Return to the park and meet the driver for a transfer to Volcanoes National Park.

On arrival, check-in at the booked lodge for relaxation, dinner, and to retire for a night.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking and relaxation.

Wake up for a morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters for a simple briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. You will then be allocated a gorilla family to trek and proceed to the trailhead and commence the activity with the lead of a guide.

This will take you about 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and 1 hour for photography when you find the gorillas. Later in the evening, you will have dinner and a good night’s sleep at the booked lodge when you return.

Day 9: Cultural visit and transfer to Lake Kivu.

Have an early morning breakfast and transfer to the Iby’iwacu village. This village combines all cultural traditions of Rwanda that will expose you to the former lifestyles, dances, dressing codes, and foods of the people, hence immersing deeply into Rwanda’s culture.

Have en route lunch and transfer to Lake Kivu, where you will check in at the booked accommodation facility for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 10: Transfer to Kigali and departure.
